Case Study: E-Commerce / Mobile Marketplace
Developing custom software for retail is nothing new for MobiDev. Here's one more example – Pitapat, a specialized mobile marketplace that allows to buy and sell pre-loved baby and children's items. The general idea is not novel for sure; but creating a product for a specific niche always requires viable ideas and well-defined target audience and their needs. The product owner had all that, and it made for a good start. Ours was the task to design, develop and publish an iOS application and a landing page, with further support afterwards.
How to build an online marketplace app
We started with app design; step by step our wireframes gained new details and the screen flow was created. When the main functional requirements were described, we launched backend development. Slightly later we began to develop the iOS application.
Besides the main features, new ideas were brought to the table over the course of the entire project. Brought by both the product owner and our dedicated team, they were documented in the suggestion log, a storage of valuable ideas for possible future updates.
Development was organized according to our proven polished procedures and best practices: the product owner as the single decision-maker, and 2-week sprints. Each sprint resulted in a delivered mobile app build, together with a detailed report on achievements, spent time, and efficiency of implemented features in correlation to the spent budget. Therefore, the product owner's company always had a clear picture of the pace and progress of the entire project. Here is a clickable sample of a sprint report:
We quickly developed mutual trust and understanding, which sped up the processes and helped us share ideas in a more open manner. The product owner knew that we wanted to make the product better and better, and our team was deeply into productive and inspired work on this mobile app.
The service that we suggested for gathering logs and app statistics was appreciated by the product owner. This information allows to analyze and understand behavior and needs of users better, and this always works for improvement of the product.

Results and achievements
The successful launch of Pitapat covered the target audience in the UK—with further expansion to new markets coming in the near future. Product development did not stop at that point; we started to elaborate the system of advert search and filtering. Besides the iOS app, even more potential users will be covered with the Android version, which is currently under estimation and Spanish localization. Our team is happy to be a part of this project, and its evolution has just started.
Professionalism of our team, effective communication between all participants, and all the inspiration that we get from the product owner, contribute to the success of this project.
