Denise Shiffman established GroupWell with the purpose to help people find a path to recover from their behavioral health condition through evidence-based treatment, connection, support, and validation. GroupWell provides group therapy – treatment for both mental and social health and a modality of behavioral healthcare proven as effective as individual therapy.
The GroupWell platform is a HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based service delivering preventative care wellness groups, behavioral change groups, and mental health treatment groups by licensed therapists and certified coaches. Members are matched to affinity groups with people like them based on a number of variables. Members can also search for groups using detailed filters to find the best match.

HIPAA-Compliant Software Development Checklist
Tracking a member’s behavioral health symptoms was among the key features to be delivered. The deep logic we’ve implemented provides in-depth analytics represented in an easy-to-understand format.
GroupWell processes and stores personal health data, so taking HIPAA requirements into account was exceptionally important. Joint work with the client’s in-house team allowed us to reach this goal.
We created a development strategy that combined open source tools and libraries with custom development to optimize timelines and costs. Calendar, video chat, and UX were all leveraged from easily available market solutions.
Since engaging both members and clinicians was core to the platform design, we’ve extensively worked on UX & UI design to make GroupWell easy-to-use, especially among new users. Additionally, we chose Ant Design as part of our strategy to use extensive 3rd party services integration. This library has all the necessary elements and speeds up the adaptive design creation. As a result, we were able to shorten the timeline by 15% and achieve a high quality, browser-based app with excellent mobile adaptive capabilities.
