Upgrading IoT Application for car tailpipe sound setup

Starting cooperation in 2017, Cete Automotive GmbH engaged MobiDev to work on its software product line, including upgrading Active Sound Gateway (ASG), an EU-certified Internet of Things mobile application that allows users to adjust their vehicle’s sound. After MobiDev completed the ASG upgrade, Cete Automotive made it available to numerous clients, including owners of premium cars such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Range Rover, Volkswagen, and Tesla, resulting in over 50,000 downloads on Google Play.

The Story Behind

Founded in 2012, a Germany-based vehicle electronics manufacturing company, Cete Automotive GmbH, specializes in IoT solutions for customizing car settings using custom hardware. In 2017, the company engaged MobiDev in improving and then expanding its software product line which in particular includes:

Conducted design audit before completing UX/UI overhaul

Tasked with improving user experience and increasing transparency, MobiDev's design experts completed a thorough audit of the ASG application's existing design. Using the insights from this audit, we proceeded to fully redesign the UX/UI, ensuring a clearer and more user-friendly interface.

Created tech strategy for rebuilding the existing application from scratch

Due to existing product constraints, we developed a comprehensive tech strategy to rebuild the application from the ground up. This included selecting the optimal technology stack and ensuring improved performance, scalability, and adaptability. We also added new features and enhancements to bring the application in line with modern industry standards.

Performed re-engineering of the application from the ground up

We completely rebuilt two native mobile applications using the design assets from our initial collaboration. We chose Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android to achieve optimal performance, especially for firmware-related features. Key enhancements include settings for additional speakers, over-the-air firmware updates, and the ability to download new car sounds.

Outcomes
