THE STORY BEHIND

The Sport4kids company offers exceptional sports coaching for children from 18 months through to their teen years. The unique approach covers sports activities in schools, nurseries, and sports clubs in the UK.

Launched in 2012, the business initially operated primarily offline, focusing on enhancing the parent and child experience while also providing flexible Business-In-a-Box Partner Franchisees. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought critical restrictions, prompting Sport4kids owners to actively pursue business digitalization efforts, encompassing both training activities and organizational processes.

MobiDev provided a dedicated team to fully develop the Sport4kids app for iOS and Android platforms.

While dealing with the digitalization of educational business processes, one primary challenge lay in devising a method to effectively organize the core aspects of the program. This was necessary to cater to the needs of coaches, children, and their parents from a remote setting.

Proposed the optimal architecture to ensure a fast product launch

Considering the impact of new constraints on their business operations, the client prioritized a strict timeline for the app launch among other requirements. Thus after completing the consulting stage, we suggested the tech stack of Flutter, Firebase & Firestore to quickly kick off and deliver the results. With Flutter, the allocated engineers built two native cross-platform apps from a single codebase. Along with that, they ensured that animations and screen scrolls would work smoothly while data loads from the server, thanks to the BLoC pattern architecture which utilizes structuring, async methods, and streams. By choosing Firebase, we got access to a set of ready-to-use solutions, including authentication, real-time database, cloud functions, and storage. The Firestore database also saves time for development because it is managed locally in the console.

Implemented UI gamification considering the preferences of end users

Taking into account that S4K customers mainly include kids from schools and nurseries, the MobiDev team was tasked with adding fun to the new application, which was expected to help the client engage more people in home sports activities. To achieve this, the MobiDev design team created a UI filled with gamification while keeping the UX clear and comprehensive. This gamification included reward cards, animal badges, achievements, and scoring.

The MobiDev team was particularly motivated to serve as a software engineering services vendor, helping Sport4kids leverage digitization to overcome unexpected challenges arising during the pandemic. We aimed to find the best technological solutions to fulfill urgent business needs and prevent losses caused by the risks of declining demand, all within tight timelines.

OUTCOMES

The launched S4K app provided more than 6,000 parents and 190 coaches with convenient functionality for educational process organization, in particular extensive progress monitoring and lesson-planning tools. MobiDev developed a solution that allowed the client to quickly move their business processes online and develop a scalable digital solution, in particular covering over 800 lesson plans.
