What the Client Says

As a contractor, I have visited hundreds of homes and met just as many people. During the pandemic, meeting homeowners in person to evaluate their projects became impossible. My solution was to provide homeowners with a mobile tool that allows them to get an estimate for their project without the need for a tape measure. With just a few clicks, they can take measurements and access designer products at their fingertips.

Once the idea for the app was born, I began searching for a development partner. After numerous attempts with numerous developers, MobiDev experts were willing to take us on as a client and have expressed lots faith in our idea and are working with us currently. They have provided valuable ideas and suggestions, helping us refine and bring the concept to life. The MobiDev team has always been professional, punctual, and willing to go the extra mile. Truly giving breath to visionaries!

The Story Behind

N2:20 is an experienced home construction and renovation firm based in Oregon, USA. The COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges for home renovation businesses, severely limiting opportunities for on-site measurements and in-person communication with suppliers. The N2:20 founder, Alex, came up with the idea for software that would reduce the need for in-person contact between homeowners and home improvement specialists yet streamline and ease measuring, estimation, and visualization processes. Alex engaged MobiDev to provide AR consulting and create a functional prototype to prove the viability of his ideas and help him present the unique functionality to first users and investors to secure funding for further development.

Industry Challenges

Home Scanning is aimed at providing room measuring and refurbishment visualization in augmented reality, allowing home improvement specialists and homeowners to virtually place materials and furniture in real-life settings to ensure a good fit and meet client expectations before purchasing the materials. Additionally, users can easily obtain visualization-based estimates instantly by selecting items from the catalog and specifying their choice of materials.

How we delivered

1

Created tech strategy within the AR consulting stage

We developed a comprehensive technical strategy tailored to the initial version of the application. By conducting extensive brainstorming with the client, our business analyst and software engineers ensured alignment with the client’s business goals and user needs. This process allowed us to prioritize features to meet expected deadlines and suggest an optimal tech stack, considering the application’s potential for future scalability.

2

Built a functional prototype to showcase Home Scanning's key features

We developed a functional prototype for iOS devices, launched via TestFlight, allowing users to experience the core features of the Home Scanning application in real-world scenarios. The prototype successfully demonstrated the viability of the client’s concept while ensuring it met the expected performance and feature requirements, paving the way for further development.

3

Developed a custom algorithm to enable the mixing materials feature

One of the core challenges we addressed within the initial version of Home Scanning was enabling users to mix different materials on the same surface. To overcome this engineering hurdle, we developed a custom algorithm and used a Graph data structure. This solution allows users to divide floor areas into multiple zones and assign a unique material to each one, visualizing how various materials and objects interact within the space in real-time.

4

Implemented AR project relocalization and editing

We developed a feature that allows users to revisit their saved projects at any time, view the details, and make adjustments using AR Preview mode. In cases where the project is reopened in the same room, our Relocalization technology accurately identifies the original position from the initial scan. This ensures seamless continuity between project sessions and enhances the editing experience.

5

Developed a comprehensive estimate feature

The MobiDev team created a system that automatically generates cost estimates based on the materials selected during visualization. This feature allows home improvement specialists to receive an accurate quote, factoring in both the chosen materials and additional elements like screeding or plasterboard.
